Gunman Contracts VR vs Non-VR — What You Need to Know

The game is built for VR and non-VR from the ground up. What Steam's store page confirms about controller support, headset support and language audio.

Target keyword: gunman contracts vr · 3 min read · Updated Sep 10, 2026

Gunman Contracts - Stand Alone is unusual among VR shooters in one specific way: it was built from the ground up for both VR and non-VR, rather than being a flat game with a VR mode bolted on, or a VR game with a pancake port. Here is what that means in practice, plus the actual hardware requirements from the store page.

Steam's official feature list

The store page confirms the following Steam features:

  • Single-player
  • Steam Achievements
  • Full controller support
  • Tracked controller support
  • VR Supported
  • DualShock controller support
  • Steam Cloud
  • Stats and Steam Leaderboards
  • Family Sharing

Two of those are worth reading closely. Full controller support plus DualShock controller support means the non-VR path is not keyboard-and-mouse only. And Tracked controller support plus VR Supported confirms the VR path is first-class, not an afterthought.

System requirements (from the developer)

The requirements are split by how you intend to play. Note that the minimum spec is explicitly labelled as being for non-VR.

MinimumRecommended
OSWindows 10 (64-bit)Windows 10 (64-bit)
ProcessorNon-VR: Intel Core i5-7500 or betterVR: Intel Core i7-12700 or better
Memory12 GB RAM16 GB RAM
GraphicsNon-VR: GTX 1070 or betterVR: RTX 3060 or better
Storage20 GB available space20 GB available space
VR supportOpenXR: Standing / Sitting

The developer adds one important caveat in the requirements themselves: "Tests on various systems are still in progress. These Specs are for Non-VR."

That sentence does a lot of work. It means:

  1. The listed minimum is a non-VR minimum. A VR-capable machine will generally need more.
  2. The recommended tier is where VR specs appear — i7-12700 and RTX 3060.
  3. The numbers may move during Early Access, because testing is ongoing.

VR: what the store page tells you

  • Runtime: OpenXR, with both Standing and Sitting play styles supported
  • Controllers: tracked controller support and DualShock controller support are both listed
  • Platform: Windows PC only — there is no macOS or Linux build

OpenXR rather than a single headset vendor's SDK is the technically significant detail here: it is the cross-vendor standard, which is why the store page can list headset support generically rather than naming one manufacturer.

Languages

LanguageInterfaceFull audio
EnglishYesYes
GermanYesYes

Both supported languages are marked with full audio support on the store page. If you are playing in a third language, expect English or German audio.

Non-VR: what to expect

Since the game was designed for both from the start, the non-VR version is not a compromise port. What differs is the input and the physicality:

  • Aiming and reloading are mechanical, not physical. In VR these are body movements; flat, they are inputs.
  • The Hive's practice stations matter more on the flat screen, not less — the gun range skill games are still the fastest way to calibrate your settings.
  • Leaderboards are shared. Steam Leaderboards cover contracts, skill games and challenges across both ways of playing, so a VR player and a non-VR player appear on the same board.

Still unverified

  • Which specific headsets have been tested and confirmed working
  • Whether the non-VR build has any features the VR build lacks, or the reverse
  • Whether the system requirements will be revised as Early Access testing concludes

待确认 — this page is updated as the developer publishes more.
